The Great Yorkshire Show

We had a fantastic week at the Great Yorkshire Show.

Having set up a fair proportion of the stand on the Friday before the show, we then had some time to enjoy Tour de France in Harrogate on the Saturday.

It was an exciting and colourful spectacle that we felt lucky to be part of! Hopefully it has really put Yorkshire on the map.

So the final touches and cookware were added to stand 157 on the Monday. We had  decided to exhibit a Dual Control 3 oven AGA in the relatively new colour Aqua. It looked splendid on our stand - we had painted the walls a pale indigo and the overall effect was cool and trendy. A contemporary feel for such an iconic and classic product.

Along with the AGA Dual Control 3, we took a black electric Rayburn cooker, complete with induction top and a black 6:4 conventional cooker. Both cookers generated a lot of interest and will now be sold off at a special price to make room for autumn's new stock (please contact michael@countrywarmth.co.uk for details).

Tuesday was a mainly fair day with the exception of a down pour at 3pm. We were busy with customers, selling cookware and textiles. We had some new range roller towels with a dog print which flew off the shelves as did the Sophie Allport hob hats and gauntlets.

Wednesday was even busier with AGA Saga mugs and Mrs Madden aprons being a huge success.

The show ended with a bright and dry day which allowed us to pack away easily and return back to Malton. It was a super show for us and we would like to thank all our lovely customers and everyone who visited our stand.

We will look forward to doing it all again next year!

The AGA City60

We are delighted to announce the launch of the AGA City60.

Always had room in your heart for an AGA, but never enough space in the kitchen? well now you have...

The launch of the new AGA City60 means that everyone will be able to find an AGA that fits perfectly. The new AGA City60 is everything you would expect from an AGA, but wrapped up in a smaller, more city-friendly package.

At just 60cm wide, it's perfect for small spaces. And, just like other iconic AGA cookers, it's made from cast iron and employs radiant heat cooking technology, meaning all the flavour, goodness and moisture is locked in. In winter you can enjoy the indefinable AGA warmth in the kitchen and in the summer your AGA City60 can be on when you need it and off when you don't. The AGA City60 is fully factory finished, is room vented so can be sited anywhere, and is mounted on wheels so is easy to move around or take with you if you relocate.

The World Para Carriage Driving Championships

Last week we travelled south to the stately grounds of Sandringham House to take part in the World Para Carriage Driving Championships.

It was the second year that Country Warmth had been involved with sponsorship at the prestigious event, however it was the first year that the Para World Championships had taken place at the venue and we are competing with our Welsh section D cob 'Larry' ably driven by our Swedish friend Birgitta.

We were blessed with good weather as the vet checked us into the stable area, along with competitors from eight different countries.

Later that evening we enjoyed a 'Nations Night' whereby each country supplied food and drink that is typical to its homeland. We sampled moose salami from Norway, Gouda cheese from Holland, Guinness from Ireland, Pimms and strawberries with cream from Great Britain, maple candy from USA and waffles from Belgium washed down with black current schnapps from Germany.

As we were competing with a Swedish team our contribution was a hard cheese with cumin seeds and soft cheese spread with fish roe all served on traditional Swedish crisp bread. We washed this down with a choice of herb vodka and delicious red berry cider and liquorice sweets! It was a fun evening enjoyed by all, some consuming rather more schnapps that others...!

Thursday was taken up with vets trot up and walking obstacles and selecting our route for Saturday's marathon. We attended the opening ceremony in the evening in the Royal company of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. It was through his interest and tenacity that Carriage Driving became such a recognised sport in the UK.

Friday was dressage day and unfortunately the weather broke in the afternoon so our test was conducted in the middle of a thunder storm! However, Birgitta and Larry were undaunted and posted a very respectable 4th place. We then had to dry all our clothes and equipment in time for Saturday's marathon. Shame we didn't have an AGA in the horse box to dry everything on!

Luckily the rain held off for Saturday and although the tracks around the estate had taken a lot of rain, the sandy soil had drained well to ensure acceptable driving conditions. It was a tough marathon with six obstacles all with tricky elements including water to go through and bridges to cross. The leader board had many changes but everybody had made it home in one piece.

Sunday morning saw a technical cone course with two zigzags to drive and several tight steps between cones. The scoreboard again reflected the change in fortunes for some competitors. Our combination coped brilliantly to climb a place and finish in 6th place. We felt we had earned every inch of this placing and we were proud to have competed at such a super event!
